ICE Raid on Hyundai Plant in Georgia Sparks Outrage: Hundreds Arrested in Largest DHS Operation.
Federal immigration authorities have confirmed the arrest of hundreds of workers at a Hyundai plant in Georgia, in what the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is calling its largest-ever immigration raid.
According to officials, agents arrested 475 workers on Thursday at a Hyundai battery facility in Ellabell, Georgia, located about 30 miles west of Savannah. The operation is described as part of an ongoing criminal investigation into unlawful employment practices and other federal crimes.
However, controversy quickly erupted after The Independent revealed that the search warrant only sought the arrests of four workers — all of whom were Latino. Despite this, federal agents detained hundreds of South Korean workers, triggering diplomatic tensions.
South Korean officials expressed “deep concern and regret” over the arrests, condemning the raid as an unfair infringement on their nationals. The incident has sparked an international uproar, raising questions about immigration enforcement, workplace violations, and U.S.–South Korea relations.
This raid has quickly become a flashpoint in debates about immigration policy, foreign labor, and corporate responsibility in the United States.
